Just got my first SEO Consultant gig today. How should I charge the client? earn by blogging adsense income

A little background:

I have been working as an in-house Digital Marketer with a focus on SEO and Content for the last 3 years. I spent 2 years working with an eCommerce firm before moving on to a SaaS company, and so I have a decent understanding of both the B2B and B2C environment.

I left last month to focus on creating my own brand after a few weeks of rest. My old boss got me in touch with an affiliate company head who used to work with us in running an affiliate program, and he has decided to bring me in and has asked me to think about commercials and what can I do with them.

I have a fair idea of what kind of work I can do for him but have zero ideas about how much should I charge him. I would be visiting his office once a week and will be creating backlinks for him apart from that one day, rest of the week, and based on that I was thinking of charging him a retainer, plus whatever costs are incurred in acquiring backlinks in case of paid backlinks.

Does that sound like something that I can possibly do? If not, what could be the other possible options? Some advice would be great.

Thanks in advance!
