I'm not planning to rank first place, but the article that I linked to is ranking first place for that keyword that I want by linking to it am I reducing my 'SEO power' or just simply making it harder to get to the first place since I will be giving him some link juice ? <will it make ranking second place harder or no is basically what I mean>
