Hey all!
I love the excellent advice that people in this forum so commonly at willing to give, people here have really helped me in the past and of course I am very grateful.
I'll just give a slight bit of background to this idea and stuff I've had before I get into the actual solution that I have made.
My university is very behind in a lot of things, technology is big thing that is lacking.
So coming up to this time of year there's a lot of hustle and bustle around internships / work placement and graduate programmes and the likes - it can get very crazy.
There are only limited places of course for work placements / internships, and they are in MASSIVE demand.
If people are trying to apply to a job interview they must go to the NOTICE BOARD, which is basically where the job spec documents are sent in to the college & PRINTED OFF & STUCK ON THE WALL and see do any of the jobs advertised on the board fit in with their skill set and relevant to their degree. They must then meet with the staff MEMBER (singular) responsible for assigning all of the places - and hope that there is still availability for the job and try to arrange an interview.
So what I have done is learned Ruby on Rails and make a jobs board type site that people are able to post jobs specs etc on and that students can apply directly with their CVs to the company and allow interviews to be arranged directly with the source so to speak.
I have a few "connections" so to speak in the college, so I feel that I could quite easily get backing from the college (obviously need to get that done and guaranteed first) but I'm thinking maybe to start with my college specifically and then look to expand to other college's afterwards.
My main concerns with the entire thing is - what would be the best way to monetize it in the long term?
I have a few POSSIBLE approachs I could take:
1. Charging the company's:
This seems to be the most logical way to do things.
Since we would have the access to the students directly, I feel like this could an efficient way to do things?
Companies would be charged to post a job listing with the huge access to the students.
2. Charging the students:
This is a different approach I was thinking of taking, if I could get backing from the college. If I could get the jobs directly myself, and have them all listed on the site and then pay for access to view the listings - it's a different way to look at things but interesting.
Be sort of like the notice board except virtual.
Another method is just to do it for free for everyone - but of course if it's a business I am looking to start I need to monetize it in some way.
If anyone could offer some advice on the topic that would be amazing!
Thanks in advance!
