I've been doing bookkeeping for a number of years, but mostly in a highly specific (and complicated) niche. I am going to branch out and start offering remote bookkeeping services to small businesses, and thought I'd check to see what you folks think of what I'm planning to offer (note: this is Canadian based).
Mainly, I want to get a sense of whether what I'm thinking of charging seem reasonable. Here's what I was planning to offer:
Base Services Provided -- $125/month flat fee
- Expense tracking -- you provide the receipts, I'll make sure they are posted to the accounting software properly
- Accounts receivable tracking -- you send the invoice, and I'll take care of ensuring that it gets paid, sending out reminders on 30, 60, and 90 days overdue
- Bank reconciliations
- A monthly summary of your business's financial position with all relevant data (bank balances, AR situation, profit/loss summary compared to budget, compared to last month)
- Accounting software subscription
Optional Services:
Payroll for up to 5 employees -- $50/month:
- Run payroll, calculate taxes
- Direct deposit into employee bank accounts
- File & pay taxes
- ROEs upon request
Contractor Payments for up to 5 contractors -- $50/month:
- Payout to contractors
- Create and file T4as
- Calculate and remit Workers Compensation
For example, if you had a cleaning company with 2 contracted cleaners, you would pay $175 a month.
Or, if you had a power washing service, but you did all the work, then you'd pay $125/month.
Any thoughts on this? Does this seem like a reasonable amount to charge for bookkeeping services? Am I overcharging? If so, why? Am I undercharging? By how much?
Thanks for the feedback
