So my friend and I have an idea for a business involving renting vans. Neither of us really know anything about starting a business. Surely it was just being naive, but we both just assumed that as long as you had a well written business plan and viable idea, you could just get a small business loan. However, when looking through different sources, it seems that you have to have already been running a business for a year or two in order to qualify for a small business loan. Credit cards seem really risky, and it would take several months to get any revenue, so we wouldn't have a way to pay the minimum monthly payment in the meantime. Crowdfunding seems to us one of the only ways to get money just right of the bat.
How do people fund their businesses from the very start? The idea we have is relatively not very expensive. How the hell are people opening things like restaurants? Is it just a given that you have to invest a lot of your own money?
I feel like there's something crucial or obvious here that we're just totally missing.
