Most brands running giveaways set up their rules to be something like: follow us, like this pic, tag 2 friends. While that works well enough, it limits the potential spread for no reason at all.
Part 1 of this trick - A while back I realized that the "tag 2 friends" part really makes no sense. We started experimenting with "tag unlimited friends" instead. Each tag was another entry, 1 tag = 1 entry, 10 tags = 10 entries. This allows more overall people to be tagged into your ecosystem, and it doesn't cost you anything more to do this. More people tagged, same prize(s).
Part 2 - The above had already proven to work waaaay better than the typical "tag 2 friends" rules, but I had another idea to boost it even farther. We tried it on our recent giveaway and it brought in 845 comments! Crazy. The idea was adding this to the rules: If it hit 500 comments, the prizes would 5X. Meaning, 5 winners instead of 1.
So now, entrants could have as many entries as they wanted to tag, AND also had an incentive to 5X their chances if the overall pool grew past 500 comments.
845 comments absolutely blew away previous engagement, which was already way higher with only the first trick we had discovered.
The point of running a giveaway is to boost awareness, so spreading it farther is a clear win. These ideas have gotten us insanely more engaged giveaways, so that's great.
Don't be afraid to try new ideas when everyone else is doing the exact same thing!
