My family is originally from Laos, but have been living in the United States for over 30 years. We emigrated to the US as refugees after the end of the Vietnam War.
Laos is still a backwater developing country, mainly due to its land-locked location and conservative Communist government. Though many economists will say it has one of the fastest growing economies in the ASEAN community.
In the last 20 years, the Laotian government has been slowly opening up to investors and foreign businesses. China has poured billions into the country by helping Laos build a series of hydroelectric dams. There are 72 that are planned and about 20% are currently being constructed.
Among the local population, there is still a very large wealth gap between the haves and have-nots. You're either living in the city with money to spend or you're a dirt poor farmer. There is no middle class. Tourism is starting to increase, and I see a great business opportunity where anything is possible in Laos.
I would like to get everybody's opinion on this and maybe some ideas on certain opportunities they would personally target. Thanks a bunch!
