Hello fellow redditors,
A small background on myself.. I recently (2 weeks ago) graduated from college with a software engineering diploma. Since the beginning of 2015, I started building mobile applications for fun along side a friend of mine, and this is where I really started diving into the different technologies the market currently has to offer in terms of developing a mobile application.
Around August 2015, one of my professors asked me to join his team, which consists of students, to help develop applications for 3rd party clients (outside of college). Ended up only working with him till the end of 2015. Beginning of 2016, me and my aforementioned friend started building a SaaS product. We invested a lot of hours into making sure we study all the individual fields that goes into building an application (i.e. Security, managing big data, UX) to make sure we're offering a quality product, and not just a money grabber. Took until August 2016 to call the product ready for the market and started charging for it.. 4 months later it's creating 1/50th the revenue we expected it make. Nothing new happens for a while other than I left my shares at the SaaS product I had as I had a small fallout with my friend. In May 2017, one of my other professors really liked the SaaS product and asked me for my phone number to pass it along to his friend who was looking for an application developer (not necessarily mobile). Now since beginning of June 2017, I have been working with my professors reference, however this time I registered a business and I'm technically being contracted instead of being employed. So far they really love my work (I am lead software developer), and the project is expected to come to an end around end of October.
NOW HERE IS MY QUESTION
If you've actually read the previous paragraph, you'd agree with me that I have a good understanding of the application development process, but that's it. I have no business sense or logic. Now once I finish and deliver my current contract by the end of October, I will have a decent capital to be able to live off for some months, but here is where I need your help.
How do I actually keep the business going? My initial plan was, considering technically my "company" is a no name, I need to start small and was planning to hit up all family owned or small chain businesses around me asking if they would like to be on the app market. I would have the proposal ready, with time and wage quotes ready. I'm thinking of minimalistic apps, pretty much their website, but on the app store. It personally to me seems like people just want to be able to say I have an app on the market, plus the push notifications is a big selling point.
End goal for my business is to be able to create bigger software applications, be it a mobile app or an inventory system, to enterprise level companies. Just gotta work my way up, no?
