Advice for Canadian Craft Cannabis Producers? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

For the last 8 months my business partner and I (both 24) have been working on starting a craft cannabis company in Canada. We are looking for advice from anyone who has experience working in the industry; general entrepreneurship advice would be appreciated as well.

What we have done so far: 1) Incorporated our business; 2) Secured a warehouse to grow in (4200 sq ft with 2800 sq ft of growing space, not yet renovated); 3) Hired a quality control officer (PhD Microbiology, plenty of greenhouse experience but none with marijuana); 4) Completed a security plan with a third party (we convinced them to do this for free if we would agree to use them as our security provider); 5) Completed our business plan, approx. 25 pages (we have done our best to develop SOPs, but this is difficult to do without a consultant); 6) Created concept for 3 different craft strains.

What we have yet to do: 1) Secure our license to produce (application completed but not submitted until we shore up our business plan, primarily SOPs); 2) Raise capital to renovate our warehouse into a growing facility, (we have a few interested investors and solid connections in our city, we plan to finance through a combination of investment and debt, no point in financing until we get our license); 3) Get a quote for the grow room (this would include lighting, growing benches, irrigation, etc., we have had a tough time getting a supplier to respond to us); 4) Find a licensed third party cannabis tester (tests for THC, CBD content and other health and safety concerns), we have been in contact with potential tester, but they do not yet have their controlled drugs and substances license number.

If you have had experience in the cannabis industry (legally) what are some considerations you overlooked? What information resources did you use? What advice would you give to a new producer? What advice would you have for a first time business owner?
