First $15k+ month for my digital marketing agency.

It's taken quite a while to get here. I quit my job in banking at the end of 2016 but there's a few key things I wanted to share:

1. Focus on doing one thing and doing it really well - we used to talk about SEO, PPC, Content Marketing, Influencer Marketing, FB Ads, Instagram and now 90% of our conversation is around SEO only and that's what we tell prospect clients we specialise in given that I have 8 years of experience in it. Offering too many things only adds to confusion.

2. Talk about what the client wants and most importantly in their language i.e. we talk about getting in front of more clients, increasing orders and getting in front of more people not technical updates

3. Don't worry about creating the perfect site, I'm still not pleased with ours but when you put your customers problems first, that automatically becomes less of a priority.

4. Be open and honest with prospect clients - I recently told a £400 p/m client that the economics didn't make sense i.e. £400 p/m to attract a £10k+ customer and then talked about the benefit of putting in more and the disadvantage of going too low with the budget - we're going to be speaking about a 1k retainer soon which is better than before

5. Build strong relationships with clients and partners by genuinely going out of your way to be helpful. At times it means you're not getting paid for your time, but good karma always pays. Also, once you have a good relationship you can offer other services.

6. Be personable and take the time to understand your clients' businesses - this is one of the biggest reasons I decided to create my own agency in 2015 as I was not impressed with other agencies selling generic packages, rather than solutions.
