To those who have grown Instagram and Social Media pages, where do you source your content? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I keep seeing posts by people saying, "I have a 300,000+ follower social media page that I grew by accident..." and I have to wonder, how?

I grew my own company's IG page from 0 to 1,000 or so and the hardest part was creating quality content.

So to the people who have had these happy accidents, do you...
1. Repost content? If so, do you credit originals, steal it, post as an original but credit the original?
2. Create your own content and just do it constantly?
3. Other? Pay for users?

I'm not terribly interested in the "how do you grow" aspect. Mostly interested in how these people are just (allegedly) growing these user bases without stealing content from other sources. Quality content is tough to create (to me at least)!

Is there an industry rule of thumb for taking content from say Reddit or FB and posting it to IG? I know reposts happen, but I guess I'm concerned about what is considered allowable and what isn't.

For instance, say I'm interested in creating an IG account completely around the sport GOLF. I'm not going to just go out and snap a bunch of golf pictures, attend tournaments, make golf memes myself; unless I was just truly dedicated and it was a full-time gig. I might be able to make some original content, but certainly not as much as you would need to get a vast amount of active followers. So how would you source this content fairly?
