Hi r/SEO, I feel like this question has to have been asked before, and I tried searching for similar threads, but maybe I'm wording my searches incorrectly, because I can't find any solid information.
I work for a LSAT tutoring startup. We're doing OK in organic search (usually 4th or 5th result competing with major prep companies).
The thing is, every time our squarespace site shows up in search, it's linking to our About page.
Now I know that the About page shows up ahead of our home page because there's very little text on our home page, but I'm not sure why the About page is showing up ahead of our LSAT course page, for example. The 2 pages have similar keyword density and wordcount. Is it simply a matter of more people checking out the about page when they get to our site?
As far as I know, we don't have any major backlinks to our about page. My bosses want to have a different page (tutoring or LSAT courses) show up in organic search. What can I realistically tell them to expect? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, I don't know much about SEO.
My first inclination was to alter our about page so it acts more as a landing page and funnels people to appropriate parts of the site since it's showing up first anyway. Any help would be appreciated, cheers!
