Micro business owner looking into venturing in the retail/China MFG realm... So many questions.... entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hey there!

I am currently a micro business owner selling good from a small snack stand (pretty much a glorified ice cream cart). I am hoping to keep my start up costs as low as possible while maintaining a level of quality.

I am looking into venturing into electronic accessories starting off with phone cases and struck up some a few convos with Chinese manufacturers in customizing some of their products to fit some of the latest models.

Since I have experience in working with China Manufactures in my job as a Textile Merchandiser I kind of understand the logistics of procurement, specs, costing and the challenges of working with international mfg from a more corporate setting. However, now that I am a one woman team delving into a new industry... I have a lot of questions...

Business Est. Questions:

• I will be establishing myself as an LLC to limit any potential legal issues or any other suggestions?

• Are there additional taxes or licenses or regulations I need to be complete for importing manufactured goods

Manufacturing / Legality Questions: * Where are your favorite places to contact manufacturers. I am currently using Alibaba but have not conducted any transactions yet

• When creating custom molds for product, is there a clause or formal legal procedures that molds are only to be used by my solely business or is this standard

• How are these Manufacturers using the likeness of popular characters like Hello Kitty. Are there royalties that need to be paid? Or is there some sort of creativity clause that allows sellers to create these products (I am thinking Etsy products with Pokemon designs etc).

Packaging:

• When doing my research I am looking at vending with Amazon which fulfills orders directly from China.... When packaging g product is that usually performed in a packaging plant in China then shipped to Amazon for fulfillment? Since I will be fairly small scale, does it make most sense to just send all packaging to me to be done by hand then ship to Amazon or direct to customer?

Any other words of wisdom for someone looking to make the micro to the small business leap?
