Phone call with China? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

Hello everyone!

My partner and I have run a very successful import/retail business on Ebay now for around 6 months. We started it to build capital to launch more stable/passive subsidiary businesses, manufacturing and selling our own products for much higher margins.

We are moving into "Phase 2", starting our first subsidiary (a sporting goods company) and I am going to be calling a manufacturer in China late tonight (time zone has them 12 hours ahead).

While it may seem silly to seasoned entrepreneurs, or to really anybody who has done business for long, I am quite nervous about this. Not only have I never spoken directly (that is, outside of email) with a manufacturer, but I am concerned about a possible language barrier as well as the possibility of being taken advantage of due to inexperience, e.t.c.

Does anybody have any advice? Even just little mistakes that are easy to make that I should avoid? Any particular cultural offenses I could unknowingly make? Hell, words of encouragement?

Entrepreneurship tends to involve stepping outside of your comfort zone a lot, and so far I have been pretty good with that, but for some reason this phone call in particular has me shaking in my boots.
