Should I build a shitty prototype or instead go for seed funding? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

A little backstory first. For the past 2 years, I've been trying to turn my passion of filmmaking into a business. Although I worked really hard, met many people to take in as co-founder, and also almost got funded; I had the clarity to hold off that project until the VR/AR market is stable. For me, coding was never very much of an interest. My previous venture had nothing to do with coding or programming so I never picked it up.

Moving on.

I had an idea for an application that stemmed from a personal need for such an app. I subsequently searched for an app like that but there are none in the global market. I really searched. It's not so unique that it'll change the world, but it adds another layer of functionality and ease of access to an already existing app. But the idea is solid.

For the past 6 months, I've gathered information in regards to what a potential user needs. I surveyed my friends, family, and extended people that I know, if they would be interested in such an application. With the information and my own preferences, I've worked during my free time on taking this to the next step.

I've written the complete business plan, with all the financial details a potential investor would want, what kind of devs I need in my team, calculated how much money we need to build a beta, created marketing strategies, made promotional materials like logos and stuff, created wireframes and visual layouts for web and android, and other small steps. I have basically done everything I can possibly do, other than actually build the application because I cannot do that.

However, last week I decided to check out Rails, and I started to like programming for the first time. It was easier and more natural to me.

I understand I'll have to learn HTML, CSS, JS, to make a complete web app but that is going to take a lot of time.

But would it be worth it to build it myself? Even if I do learn all the required languages, I'm sure as hell not going to able to build something concrete web app anytime soon. Let's not even talk about Android and iOS, which I know nothing about. Yet, should I go down this path?

Or, should I take my plans to an investor, raise a seed fund, hire a kickass team, make a product that actually works and looks professional? This would decrease the time to build my app and the entire infrastructure to 6 - 12 months. I would then like to sell the company or get an acquisition in 3 - 5 years. That is my first preference over an IPO because I believe the VR/AR market will be stable by then.

Personally, I know what I want to do. That's to go to an investor.

But there's so much discrimination against the so-called 'idea guys' and I'm afraid I'll get rejected by investors. I'm honestly afraid to even talk about it here because unless you can actually make something, people tend to shit on you. I'm sorry I can't code but I can do everything else a startup needs.

What should I do?

Before you say it, I'm not comfortable with getting a co-founder for this project. Secondly, if it was easy for me to find a trustable developer, I wouldn't be posting here. I have made a decision to go forward with my venture as a solo-founder after much though, and that's what I'm going to do. Anyway, what do you guys suggest?

Thanks for the help.
