I have 3-5 business that I'm starting in the next year and a half. Some of them will be running right away. Others wont be making a profit, or moving any money at all, right off the bat.
While everything is being setup, I wanted to form the parent company for all these business. Each business is different: a clothing store, party planning, film production, food truck, etc. I'll have different people running each one, but they'll all answer to me.
My question is, can I setup the parent company before the other companies? I did some research and I can't find a concrete answer. How would this look on paper?
I've seen some suggestions about forming just one company and doing each business as a "project" using DBA. But, I want each business to be it's own. For example: if one business gets sued, I don't want the others to be liable... but I want the parent company to be able to step in and handle stuff like that. Is that possible?
This is what I have in mind...
Parent Company Enterprises:
1) Film Production Company
1A. Film Franchise One
1B. Film Franchise Two
2) Food/Restaurant Business
2A. Food Truck One
2B. Food Truck Two
2C. Restaurant One
3) Clothing Company
4) Party Planning Business (would do catering through #2)
Also, Parent Company would have it's own projects that they do for other companies not owned by them, such as collaborations, consulting, etc.
How do I go about creating this? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Edit: Formatting. Numbers wont change lol
