Hello /r/Entrepreneur!

While in college, I've been contacted to be apart of an "experiment" of sorts. I don't have prior experience with the following, it's always been a dream of mine to create and run a business. Two companies seek to grow their business, and I was asked to help.

Company A sells flowers in my city. They want to increase their sales by having a greater online presence through social media like Instagram, Twitter, etc., and get more traffic through their website. This would involve content creation but also analytics to see the kind of traffic they get and how I could turn that traffic into more sales. Immediately I thought of creating an Adwords account and using Google Analytics, but I've read some people advocate against spending money right away on online advertising. I feel like creating an Instagram and marketing their business would be easy, but I lack the experience to know how to do it effectively. What tools do I need to advertise and grow this business locally?

Company B is a commercial janitorial service. They have no online presence and wish to increase the number of accounts through the creation of a website. It would be easier to promote and show off to potential customers. This immediately made me think of one of the most highly up-voted posts on this subreddit: Maids in Black. I could create a simple website featuring the brand, logo, reviews of the company, services offered, and a booking service. My questions start with how to approach this (using shopify, squarespace, etc.). I know this industry also gets its customers through Craigslist ads and Facebook.

The final problem is how much I am paid. I told them I only want to be paid if I actually grow their companies, and do not want an hourly wage. If I grow company A by a certain percent, should I get a cut of the sales or a percentage of that growth times a flat rate? I have a lot of questions about this project, but how I grow these companies is essentially up to me. I want to be effective and concise, and any help would be appreciated. The owner of these companies also told me he has money to invest in helping these companies grow, so spending money on doing that is not a problem. If I can make anything clearer I'd be happy to help! Thank you in advance for the help.
