Hey everyone,
I am in the process of building a digital marketplace. The website looked gorgeous on desktop, however elements overlapped and broke on smaller screens/devices.
Wanting a professional approach, I hired a developer on Upwork to optimize my website for mobile and smaller screen sizes. I quickly sourced a freelancer from Sweden and we started chatting. I provided prototypes and screenshots of what I wanted + a full detailed brief. He stated it would take him a few hours to complete the job and set to work immediately.
After two hours he had a basic version of the CSS done. Elements looked good and no longer overlapped. I headed for bed and he said he would have everything done in the morning. Twelve hours later I awoke to a broken desktop version of my website. Everything was misaligned, out of shape and buggy. The mobile version looked decent.
He's since asked for an extra couple of hours to fix the desktop version, as breaking it 'was essential to make the site responsive'. It's been 24 hours since he said this and everything is still broken. He's logged 10 hours at $15 an hour.
I'm aware I'm obliged to pay, but want to know if I have any grounds not to? This has been a huge waste of my time (and money), over something that should've been done quickly.
