Can someone please tell me the basics for SEO? earn by blogging adsense income

I hear people say meta data, good development, alt tags etc and then say about backlinks. Then people are telling me about social media (google my business, plus, twitter, facebook etc). Can someone break this down so I can understand what I actually need to approve ranking.

1) What backlinks do I need to get and what I am looking for? 2) What do I do on social media to get people to purchase products? 3) Do I still need to do htaccess sheets etc?
