Failing at starting an affiliate site, don't know where to go from here. entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I started an affiliate website too soon without doing much research to see if it was a profitable niche. When I first started it, I planned for it to be a general camping gear website. After more research, I found that camping gear wasn't a good niche to get into, and that I should have went more specific. I have changed my approach to focusing on items for family car camping, and I have found some low competition keywords for it.

What I have done so far: A few posts on a specific product, some comparison articles, and some general posts. Total, I have 21 posts right now.

I have been using google keyword tool to help find ideas for keywords to use, and focus my articles around a few keywords that fit together. It is hard for me to find many low competition keywords with high searches per month.

I set up google search console. It is showing me under "position" that I have 43 queries in the range of 27-200+, with most being at the higher range. I am not sure if my writing just sucks, or if it is because my website doesn't have many posts yet. I really don't even have any idea of how google ranks pages other than "quality content that provides use to the reader."

I am not sure if I should continue on my current path with this website, or if I should start a new website in a completely different niche. From doing what I have been doing, I have learned some, but not nearly as much as others in the past. I have learned that I need to research more before jumping into a niche, have clear ideas of what I want to offer the reader, and make sure my layout makes it easy for readers to navigate. I have also learned a lot about how wordpress works and it won't take me nearly as long to set up any future websites I may start. I spent a lot of hours just trying to figure out the best layout for what I was hoping for.

Any advice or suggestions welcome.
