Up to this point, I've been having my freelance clients send me checks in the mail. While this has the benefit of avoiding payment fees, it's becoming an increasing hassle to keep track of - I have to wait for the check in the mail, record that it's been received so I can start working, remind clients if the check doesn't arrive, and keep track of everything for tax time.
I'd like to move to an online solution where I can send an invoice to a client, they pay online, and it's all tracked for me. I'd also like to be able to set up automatic recurring billing, so if a client agrees to pay me $X every month for ongoing services, I can set that up once and not need to touch it or monitor it again.
What is my best option for this? I've looked at Quickbooks, but I don't think they offer recurring payments. Freshbooks does have recurring payments, but they also allow a limited number of clients. Wave has recurring payments and it's free, but they charge for bank transfers. And maybe I don't even need a bookkeeping solution, but I could just sign up for some kind of invoicing or payment processing solution.
I'm open to all suggestions or ideas, or for folks to share their own experiences. Thanks!
tl;dr: What is the easiest way to invoice clients so they can pay online, everything is tracked to make bookkeeping easy, and so I can set up automated recurring invoices?
