Is discussing collaboration with a company in the same space but a different market a bad idea? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I'm guessing the answers to this will depend a lot on past experience but I thought I would look for some advice.

The background is that we have a startup going live in April after a successful beta, but are looking for some funding to help get it off the ground. We thought it may be a good idea to get in touch about a possible collaboration with another company that has been very successful doing pretty much the same thing but in another part of the world.

Is this a terrible idea? Will it alert them to the opportunity in our target market? We thought maybe it could lead to a very interesting discussion about working together, maybe a white label product, maybe investment in what we are doing. Any previous good or bad experience would be great to hear!
