My family wants to go into business together, with my uncle as the investor. Our family is known for our soul food, especially gumbo, and we want to bring it to this area that basically has none in Northern California. That’s for my aunt and uncle’s business which I would be designing. I know nothing about catering.
Concurrently, my father wants to open up a paint and sip art studio where we will SERVE the soul food from my aunt’s catering business. I know a lot about paint and sip customers, as my dad and I worked for a company called Paint Nite.
I have lots of questions on how to structure these businesses, how to make the most of the situation, and how to nail down our location. My question is, should I find a mentor? Will I be pressured to give up shares in my company if I do?
