There's a lot of young, enthusiastic people on here that have the entrepreneurial spirit that isn't going to go away. For me, I get excited about ideas quickly. I work on them tirelessly for hours a week over the course of weeks or months before abandoning them. I've been doing this for two years now.
There's great advice on here sometimes that many of us simply don't wish to listen to. Not rushing into things. Learning a trade and turning a hobby into a business. This isn't what many of us want to hear. We want autonomy, flexibility and control. And of course, money. It's all things that come with successful businesses. And we want it now.
Some of us don't have trades yet, however. That's something that we believe can't stop us. After all of my failed projects, websites, podcast attempts and everything in between, the truth is right in front of me. Some of us can't force these things. Some have had some success.
The true strength comes from endurance in the difficult times of our startup projects or business ideas. And that's where most of us fail because the passion simply isn't there. I'm not any less of an entrepreneur in spirit than I was a few years ago when I began them. It takes wisdom to know when it's time to learn a trade and when it's time to start a business. For me, it's the former.
I know I'll be a successful entrepreneur one day, but it's not in the cards for now. Sometimes the best steps are to invest in yourself to produce better ideas and quality products down the line, rather than right now. For me, I've always been interested in woodworking, but I never pursued it. It wasn't the 'get rich quick' way, so it didn't appeal to me. I've put aside this mentality and put myself under the gun to learn it.
I finally nutted up and asked my father in law to take me on as an apprentice. I now go over every other weekend to hone my newly acquired trade. He's got an excellent wood shop, too. This is a commitment I cannot back out of. I'm excited about it and he is too. He's never had a son to pass his legacy on to. Now that is a true opportunity for me, if I've ever seen one.
Perhaps one day I'll be able to monetize it. But for now, I'm just having fun. I still do the corporate 9-5 grind, but I'm better my situation, both at work and in my free time. For all of you that this post resonates with, keep at it. We'll find our break one day. You can't always force it.
Thanks for reading.
