I've built an athletic training device that allows for easy timing of 100 meters, laps, or anything you want to time, with some other functions too, including speed measurement, a round timer, and more. It's a multi-purpose device for gyms and sport teams.
I went into two nearby gyms and spoke with the front desk staff. The first one called a manger over who let me show him the product and he was very friendly and seemed to like the idea, but he also seemed so nice that he would have had good things to say regardless. He took my card. The second gym told me that their fitness director wasn't in, asked me a few questions about my product, and said they'd forward the message along.
Ive always been told face to face is best, and I've worked in this field for years so it's easy for me to talk with these kinds of people, however I'm not sure if walking through the door suddenly and pitching a $389 product is a good idea.
At the same time, calling and emailing in order to set up a meeting to pitch them a product feels like it would be ignored. I'm not sure how much thought I would have given an unsolicited marketing call/email when I worked in that field.
I built this product because it's exactly what I would have loved to have when I worked as a fitness director. There's value there, there's nothing quite like it on the market, and the price is lower than anything you could consider competition. I just don't know where's best to go from here. Do I send a cold marketing email to as many relevant addresses as I can find? Call gyms and schools until someone agrees to give me the time of day? Continue showing up to places unannounced? It's an interesting feeling to just be on your own trying to generate a sale.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
