Starting a niche review/recommendation website entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

I want to start a website where I index and review/recommend businesses in the US for a specific niche. Think "best ski resorts in the US." Essentially, I would build a list of each ski resort in the US, and have separate pages built out for each business. A similar concept to this website, but for a different category: http://ift.tt/2odaCQ9 * Each ski resort would have a separate page that would aggregate its key features, pricing, etc. * I would also build out separate SEO pages by state/location: so "Ski Resorts in Montana" would have a page with a table breakdown of features and pricing, by ski resort in that state * I would research different keywords to build additional SEO pages, like "black diamond ski resorts midwest" * I would not have user ratings. The ratings and recommendations would be done entirely by me

I believe this will be successful because: *1.) I could find the best ski resorts by googling, but google does not have the information I need to make a decision readily available *2.) I'd like to be told which ones are the best, so I don't need to make a decision myself *3.) A key differentiation here is the recommendation, so I would have a star rating and some content/summary around why that one is the best.

I would get most of my traffic through SEO, targeting keywords like "ski resorts in X state", and place adsense ads on the website. The majority of the work is literally going through and creating a list of all ski resorts in the US and documenting their key features. I could imagine this taking 50-100 hours. And then I also need to figure out what information to display as well a nice way to display it, in a table format. I would do all the content writing myself.

Has anyone done this before? Any tips for a noob starting out?
