Is it common for sales people (lead sales, head of growth, business development etc) to make more money than the founder/owner (or any other employees) of a business? If so, what stage of the business is this acceptable for?
Retainer and Commission is guaranteed; whereas in many cases (especially in first few years) the owner/founder often only takes home basics to cover living expenses OR only takes when there's some profit. Employees or contractors can be fired/hired at different rates. Yet Sales-related roles are guaranteed to make money if they're making sales — even if nobody else is profiting.
What's normal/acceptable?
