Hi r/Entrepreneur ! I am currently a college student in my second year of school. Ever since I was a young kid I had always had the "entrepreneurial spark." When I was in middle school I began buying small items low and riding my bike to the post office after I sold them for a few dollars higher, on eBay. It didn't take long for me to find that I was passionate in doing this, and as I got older I sold all kinds of things throughout my house, eventually beginning to buy very small amounts of products on Alibaba to resell. Fast forward to now, I have a 110 feedback score and after a ton of research and number crunching I have begun my biggest business venture yet. I have decided to take a chance on myself and invest in a little over 2k worth of products for resale. Now here is where my main questions arise, as a NY resident I know that I am going to have to register an official DBA business name, as well as a sales ID. But as someone importing products from China, do I still have to get a reseller's License? Im totally new to these licensing processes, so excuse my ignorance. I read online that a resellers license is needed to present to your wholesale supplier in order to not pay tax on the wholesale items initially, because the tax is later collected by the state you're conducting business in. Now, upon purchasing my items none of this really applied, but should it have? Do you still have to obtain and use the reseller's License to purchase wholesale overseas?
What is the core paperwork that I will need to legally conduct a small sole proprietorship? Do I have it all covered?
