Hey guys,
I'm not really an entrepreneur yet, but I figured you guys would be the best to ask this.
I kind of ended up in my first position where I am responsible for other employees within a medium sized company. This was not the way it was supposed to be, I was gonna quietly write content for the next 30 years and retire :D
Seriously tho, this is exciting but I am also out of my depth a little bit. I have already prepared a list of pointers about development with respect to the tools we use and also a little bit about personal development as far as I can judge it. Aside from that, I wrote down suggestions how the role could be fulfilled somewhat better. I intend to not phrase these as orders but as a basis for discussion.
Going along with Carnegie I intend to be lavish in praise and very reluctant to criticise, although I think here and here some constructive pointers are OK, right? Or should that better happen during the job, when a specific reason comes up?
I also plan to talk about an outlook for the next few weeks and months, how the role is going to develop and what I am expecting of them, like what tasks and projects will come up.
Are there any do's and absolute don'ts that you guys have for regular feedback talks? What sort of questions should I ask my team aside from inquiring about personal well being and workload? I will give the opportunity to voice criticism, too, although I think culturally my guys will be reluctant. What about timing? I am planning to do these on a Friday for about 30 minutes each, depending on each individual.
Thanks for reading and it'd be great to get a discussion going. I am looking forward to your input.
