Keyword ranks with homepage instead of Keyword Landing Page earn by blogging adsense income

Hey all, I've got a question regarding keyword ranking.

A while ago I created a page which was designed to rank for a specific keyword. It turned out to be a good move as we ranked on top 3 on Google.

However, all of a sudden the rank dropped massively and what I figured is that now the HOMEPAGE ranks with the same keyword instead of the landing page.

How can this happen? How can I tell search engines to rank the other site for this keyword?
