If you had told me last year that I would be interviewing some of my heroes for a marketing podcast, I would have laughed in your face.

In the last few months, I interviewed marketers I admire like DHH from Basecamp (and the creator of Ruby on Rails), Rand Fishkin from Moz or David Darmanin from Hotjar. In total, I interviewed 16 people in a 3-month period.

Until recently, I didn’t even have a name for the podcast. I interviewed all of them for a very selfish reason: to learn as much as I could from them.

I didn’t know them prior to emailing them out of the blue. I just persisted and sent them a few emails each until they replied.

After the interview I asked them why they accepted to take part and they told me that they thought the concept was different than the marketing podcasts out there.

Most people don’t like marketers. They think they are shady, manipulative or plain dishonest. On Internet in particular, marketers have an even worse reputation because of privacy concerns, popups, spam, etc…

As a marketer, that’s something that always pissed me off. Most marketers are under pressure to deliver results so they turn to shady tactics to reach their targets.

I always tried to practice good marketing by treating people the way I’d like to be treated.

That’s how I came up with the concept of the podcast that I called “EveryoneHatesMarketers.com”: teaching digital marketers or people interesting in marketing to be successful without using shady, aggressive tactics.

I didn’t come up with it overnight. It took me a few years to actually have a clear understanding of what I was fighting against.

I’m launching the podcast next week (Tuesday) on iTunes and all podcasting apps with 3 episodes:
