It was such a dumb mistake, I created a 99% off discount code for a friend's birthday. I didn't realize you have to un-check 'display on detail page' or else the whole internet would know about it.

It was posted on SlickDeals, I was bought out of 1,500 wood sunglasses within 4 hours. When I figured out what happened, Amazon had already packed and shipped everything and it was gone. No amount of pleading with support (including crying like a little girl) would get them to cancel those orders. My mom and I emailed every customer we could, but almost none of them responded.

It was at least a $30,000 loss. I was completely crushed.

Suddenly, (probably thanks to my idiotic 'sales spike') my other products began selling really well. I soldout, I ordered more, they kept selling, I kept ordering. It seems this artificial sales spike was a catalyst for Amazon unleashing customers my way.

It was sheer dumb luck, but looking back it's a huge reason for my success. That and my support system of friends and family urging me to keep going.

Two years later, I'm at $990,000 on Amazon alone

I don't know if there's a lesson here. Don't be stupid and do what I did. Setbacks really are chances to learn and grow

Whatever happens, definitely don't give up...and definitely keep grinding
