Quick Rant Regarding Calling Leads entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

So prior to the past week or so we have generally done all of our sales through email or we'd answer the phones and sell to customers who call with questions and such.

Neither myself nor my business partner are sales people. We don't have experience in sales we're just trying our hardest with the skills we've got and we know we can develop the skills necessary to do the sales with some practice and time.

So this week I said to myself: "Jetteh.. You're gonna call the leads that come in instead of emailing them. You're gonna call them!"

So I had three leads come in on Wednesday through the website. They were all in the later evening for some reason so we sent out the automated email thanking them for contacting us and changed the part about 'email me back about so-and-so' to something along the lines of 'can we set up a quick phone call for Thursday to discuss your needs?'.

Two didn't email back and the third did saying 3p-3:30p Thursday would be great.

So all day Thursday I'm nervous as all hell. Practicing in my head the questions I would ask, the answers I needed to provide a good quote, etc.

I pick up the phone and call the 3-3:30p first and... he's not in the office. Left a message and sent a follow-up email.

Called the second and third and... neither answered. Left voice mails and sent follow-up email.

So my rant is because I finally decided I am going to do the 'right' thing, call our leads instead of email and got myself psyched up to do so and... nobody answered. So now I have to psych myself up again to call them all again today. Blegh!

/endrant - Sorry just had to get that all out of my system so I can start psyching myself up again.

What are your opinions on how often we should call if a lead that comes in through the website doesn't answer? Should we leave a voice mail every time? Should we send a follow-up email every time?
