backlinking strategy earn by blogging adsense income

When i look at competitor blogs their backlinks number in the 10s of thousands where i have around 67 so I am trying to increase that number.

Should be posting links to my blog posts everytime i publish a new post all over creation in order to get that number? I don't want to pay for links because i don't want google to sandbox me but i am beginning to get a little stumped.

I post links to hacker news and a few sub reddits often with a lot of lash back. I want to find a good way to build my backlinks.
