Better to get a subdomain at existing corporate site, or create new site for North America? [advice] earn by blogging adsense income

Hi, So a company that makes physical products sold in cans (sorry, can't get more specific) is pretty well established in Europe and is now getting a strong foothold in North America. I will be involved in marketing. They currently have companyname.com. Domain health is good. I don't really know much about how well it's ranking yet.

I will be creating a lot of written content for them and trying to get exposure for it in the North American market using various techniques that you probably already know all about. Some of this content will be posted on our site(s) and some of it will be cross-posted on industry-relevant websites with which we hope to form relationships. However, the goal is actually not to drive traffic to our site, but to our Amazon store.

I wonder if it would be better for me to set up a new domain for our North American offices? Or would it be better to set up a subdomain at the existing domain and dedicate that to North American activities? The only reason I hesitate to use their existing domain is because their market has been totally European up to this point. I'm not clear on how well Google will handle a global search audience. If a guy in Tuscaloosa is looking for a product we make, will Google show him a page based in Europe? Would it make more sense to leave the corporate mothership's site to Europe and establish a completely new one for the US and Canada?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
