My mom has a small business. She's been using a small business automation platform for her small business. One of the things in the bundle she pays for (a monthly fee) is the website, but all they really did was copy the content from her old website (originally built nearly 20 years ago) and put it into a template. They don't do any SEO maintenance on the site. Not sure what platform the website is built on, but we don't get to keep the template once she cancels - which we are seriously thinking of doing.
I'm thinking that I could just build a Wordpress site, keeping the same content and URLs (we would have to change the images, however).
About half her customers come from people searching for the business type + her town name, and there's no competition for that keyword. No other keywords really matter - just that one. Her website does not have ecommerce and it's about 10 pages of basic content (homepage, FAQs, about, contact, videos, etc). Everything I've read indicates that there would be minimal effect on her SEO rankings. Would love to get people's thoughts, though. I would like to get her out of having to pay that monthly fee, but I don't want to mess up her SEO rankings in the long run. In the short run we could always run some Google Adwords for her keyword if the ranking does tank.
