I am using Wordpress with the Yoast SEO plugin.
Two months ago the plugin "decided" to index 4000 attachment pages that were supposed to be noindex (this was due to a major bug in the plugin).
This resulted in 4000 pages with thin content that are currently indexed (essentially just an image and title in each page).
I discovered it too late after Panda penalty landed on my site due to thin content (as these 4000 pages make 90% of the site now)
I've followed the advice of submitting a sitemap to Google containing these pages with updated LastMod date. However Google has only removed a few hundred pages in the past week.
I really need to remove these pages as fast as possible. I would really appreciate any advice on how to speed up the deindexing of these pages in order to recover from the Panda penalty.
One word of advice - if you use Yoast SEO on your site check your indexed pages. If you see a big spike in the number of indexed pages - it's a big warning sign. The bug in Yoast SEO plugin had a disastrous effect on a lot of websites by getting the Panada penalty on them. I read that some sites lost 75% of their traffic due to the Yoast SEO plugin.
