I have a very old site with pretty good domain authority but it has thousands of old, dead pages with thin content that I believe are dragging the overall site down. A lot of these pages are on subdomains. Some of them I would like to delete and some I would like to refresh with new, longer form content.
Questions:
1) Would it be wise to redirect an old, thin content blog published on Movable Type on a subdomain to a wordpress site on a subfolder for the new, refreshed page? I fear having lots of thin content subdomains on the site may have been getting the site some kind of penalty.
2) Can I safely delete old pages and subdomains from the site and 301 redirect to the homepage or another related page on the site?
