Wake up call I had today: The margins for Print On Demand are just so bad... is it even worth it? entrepreneur how earn by blogging blog

So I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs this morning. Just received my first order on my new site, using Printful to fulfill and after I'm they charge me $34.95, I'm left with a whopping $5 profit.

Now because I'm carrying a balance on my credit card right now (paid income tax on it for the airmiles and perks) that $5 is probably going to be eaten up by interest. Looking ahead, I'll need to sell hundreds of dollars of inventory just to pocket around $100 at the end of the day. For a new branded clothing company I don't see how Print on Demand is smart in the long wrong. You just need better margins.

I'm considering shutting things down and focusing on my other profitable site which has always been my moneymaker. I guess I just let the newness of this whole Print on Demand idea get to my head.

What do you guys think? Consider the time invested in marketing apparel, and money spent for advertising if needed. All for a measly $5 profit a few times over seems like a bad investment.

The site, btw, is BillyRage.com. Looks great, I'm happy with it, but damn ... profit margins are sad.
