I'm building a service website that isn't wordpress based. What I've done is contract a Graphic Designer via UpWork to design the graphics. Later, I intend to hire a programmer to embed functionality into the site. My question is, what is an appropriate amount of money to offer a programmer to take the site from just pictures of pages to a fully functional website.
A little background on the business; 1. It's a service website that is meant for the scientific community. 2. The final website will have 5 services, however I will start with one to attempt to get some sort of cash-flow. 3. The website generates profit like UpWork, where Person A pays Person B and the website takes a cut. 4. I've been working on this since February. (Slow because of my current job) 5. I created a demo where my programmer created the graphics and some rudimentary functionality (clicking a button takes you to another page, etc..) 6. Cost me 1,500 for the demo. Not sure if I overpaid. Programmer was an american. 7. Graphics weren't great so I decided to split the graphics portion of the website and the programming portion of the website.
I'd love to have some insight from you guys and see if anyone has any experience with good programmers using UpWork
