I am thinking about selling dinner in my neighbourhood and I would like to validate my business idea as quickly and cheaply as possible. Here are the facts:
- I live in an apartment with a small kitchen. It is big enough to make maybe 30-50 boxes of food per day.
- I very close to a University so there are lots of students residing in the area (in similar apartments)
- For dinner, there are perhaps 3-5 food mini outlets which are within walking distance. They are mostly large tents with food warmers.
- I would like to sell boxed dinners to students and residents. I am hoping to capture the sale of 30-50 boxes per day.
- There are a few hundred households in the area.
- I am thinking about starting off by offering menu items which are not sold by any existing food spots.
- I don't believe I am able to sell boxes out of my apartment, so I am considering taking daily orders hours before dinner and then do one big delivery at a particular hour (let's say 7PM)
- I will let people know about my offering via flyers; I will hand deliver them myself. I will wear a shirt with a working logo to be perceived as somewhat professional.
- I have enlisted a family member to help cook. If it picks up, I will hire more help.
You may be able to tell that I have never started a business before but I have learned that some validation is required. What should I be thinking about? Some people are telling me that I am thinking too simply about this, and I am to expect obstacles to come up. Am I thinking about this the right way? I would appreciate some help :)
