My friend and I are developers at a mid-sized software company in the continental US. We are tired of working for bosses in cubicles, and we are seeking side projects to generate additional income. I don't want to give too much specific information here, but we have identified an organization with a multi-million dollar operating budget that we feel could greatly benefit from the use of a mobile app. Right now they rely mostly on pen and paper for day to day operations, and have a presence in all 50 states. It is NOT a non-profit. The headquarters is in another city approximately 4 hours away from us.
What is the best way to get our foot in the door, to see if there is even any interest?
We are not "sales people" and have no idea where to begin. Zero contacts inside the organization at the moment. I have a main phone number from the website, but calling and talking to some ditzy receptionist probably isn't going to get us very far.
What does /r/entrepreneur recommend? Are there other considerations we should be thinking about? Should we seek out a "sales guy" to do the talking? Not sure if bringing someone on board just to be a pitch-man/negotiator is worth it in the long run. Thanks for any/all feedback.
