Over the past year I have been lurking hard on r/Entrepreneur thinking of ways to try to start a small business on the side of my 9-5. I would see lots of posts about drop-shipping or ATM routes but dealing with products overseas seemed like a black hole and ATM routes required a whole lot of cash up front to keep running... I was looking for the cool option to make a quick buck, and it dawned on me; stay with what I know, that being monthly financials.
After 3 years in public accounting I recently go a new job in private accounting. This means my 70 hour weeks turned to a normal 40 hour a week job. This is where that void to find a side gig began. Even though it may be boring, I've maintained the books for clients in all different industries including e-commerce retail companies and a wildly popular sports media company that has sky rocketed over the past year....But my newly created bookkeeping business is about 6 days old and has 0 clients. I have the accounting background and bookkeeping experience, created a website that is up and running, and have starts to look to add clientele whom I think my services can benefit (Daily Receipts, Classifying Bank Activity, Monthly Financials)
This leads me to my two questions for all you entrepreneurs with virtual bookkeepers out there:
1.) What was the #1 thing you looked at when trying to find a virtual bookkeeping company to maintain your books?
2.) What is the biggest challenge with using a virtual bookkeeper over a local option?
